You’ve probably read or seen that the Great North Run took place over the weekend. It’s the largest and most anticipated half marathon in the world, taking place in Newcastle every September since 1981. Every year thousands of people travel to Newcastle to take part, and this year was no different, with around 57,000 competing in the annual event. It took place on Sunday 13th September and the sun was shining (albeit it might have been a little too hot!).
Burton & Fisher take on the Great North Run
Burton & Fisher took part this year and we are happy to announce that it was a fantastic and memorable experience. We didn’t manage to beat Mo Farah (we tried!) but we are incredibly proud of the members of our team that took part.
Director of the firm, Lee Fisher and management accountant Laura Fisher were the two people who represented the company, and they have both described the race as being “tough but rewarding.” Lee finished the race in 1 hour 19 minutes, whilst Laura achieved it in just 1 hour 17 minutes.
Through individual sponsors, the team managed to raise hundreds of pounds, which will all be going to a charity that we feel very strongly about.
Raising money for a worthy cause
The aim of taking part in the run was to raise money for a worthy cause. Unique Kidz and Co is a local charity that provides specialist services for disabled children and for their family. The charity was founded back in 2009 by two mums who had disabled children. They found that they were unable to find suitable childcare for their children, and struggled to find anywhere for them to take part in social activities and events.
They wanted a service that would allow parents of disabled children to return to work or education (or have time with family and friends), whilst knowing that their children are being well looked after. The children can socialise with each other, whilst having their needs met by experienced staff.
Unique Kidz and Co is now proud to say that they are supporting over 120 children with a whole range of disabilities.
Why we chose Unique Kidz and Co
Unique Kidz and Co is a charity that we have worked with for a while. We have supported them previously, and it’s always a pleasure to work with the team there. Apart from having a personal relationship with the organisation, we think that it’s always good to support a local charity. Originally located in Lancaster, you can now find them in Morecambe. If anyone would like to know more about this fantastic charity and how you can help them out, definitely check out their website.
Overall, it was a brilliant day and definitely something that our team will be taking part in again!
